Barnard Castle Christmas Lights CIC

During the Christmas period, Barnard Castle's historic town centre: from the bottom of The Bank, along Horse Market all the way to the greens on Galgate, is illuminated to provide that all important seasonal cheer.

The Town's annual Christmas Lights display - or Barney Lights as they're know by locals - is now widely admired by residents and visitors alike, but what is not generally known is the display is managed and organised entirely by an independent team of local volunteers called the 'Barnard Castle Christmas Lights' Group (BCCL). The group dedicate their spare time entirely free of charge to year-round fundraising, making sure that in combination with a contribution from the Town Council there are always sufficient funds to run, maintain and add improvements to the display year on year.

You can visit Barnard Castle and immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit any time between the beginning of December and the 'new-year' as well as enjoy the spectacle of the official lighting-up of the town's Christmas Tree.

Check our 'Barney Lights Dates' for the 2020 event.
